Dear Max and Rebecca
While people are writing down their resolutions, coming up with their words of the year, tidying up and decluttering, I’ve been stuck in holiday dreams, and not really jumping up and down to get the year started. I dream of living in new places, and wonder what I can do to up this year and make it good, and not be in a rut.
I feel like this at the beginning of most years, and it’s a slower start than most to find the mojo and set the goals. BUT… it’s getting better, and it feels like maybe my head is moving from the coast and to real life here.
My running is taking off – I’ve done my first 21km since Two Oceans in March, and we’ve had two Catch Me If You Can runs, which went well. CMIYC is a women’s running movement in SA, and not really finding a group that suited me time wise and geographically, so I started my own. To be honest, leading this group is like hosting a party, worrying if people will come, and then panicking that they might not be having a good time. But it’s been the highlight of this year so far, and I’m loving the energy and motivation.
Last week I also popped into a kids’ adoption home in Joburg to help with a charity dropoff, and I stayed to play with some of the babies. I want to volunteer there and help with the babies – they require two hours a week, something I want to commit to, but wonder how. I’m still thinking about it – I want to do something special and I love babies.
Some of the stories there made me sad, and several happy, and I didn’t leave without having used up a few tissues.
School starts this week (expect a post on that), and this laptop will be working a little harder.
To more energy and enthusiasm this year!
