Happy two years of growth, smiles, health and learning, and giving us so much joy. It feels like I’ve never known a day without you, and at the same time it seems as if it was yesterday that you were quietly, and without a big fuss, born unto us.
You are so sweet, so authoritative, so kind, so chatty. You love music, drawing, dancing, your brother, ice cream, cake, apples, school and books. Sometimes you wake up at 2am wanting books and telling your dad to “read”, and we’ve heard you say “cake cake cake” in your sleep. We dare not NOT play music in the car on the way to school, and if you don’t want clips or elastics in your hair, I know not to fight.
You light up spaces, you love people, you adore hugs, and you’re pretty comfortable around new things – faces, places and things.
You call me mommy or mama, and no matter how many times I hear it, I sometimes do a double take, not quite believing that I get the privilege of being your mom. Like despite the “mom” intensity of my feelings, it sometimes doesn’t feel like I’m your actual mother, and maybe just a babysitter for the day or week. All this means is that I’m in awe of being your mom, and it’s something that sometimes feels too good to be true.
Each day is fun with you, and you always surprise us – whether it’s with a new word, an unexpected reaction, or a fresh request. And every day I learn from you, grow with you, and find strength through you.
Happy happy birthday my daughter. May your year ahead be filled with much happiness, cake and health, new words and experiences, and many smiles and songs.
I adore you,
