After almost 365 days of talking about your sixth birthday party, it happened, with a Skylanders theme (a huge thanks to Megarom who sent us a Skylanders party box a few months ago with decor and accessories, without even knowing that you had decided on a Skylanders-themed party in October).
Your party was at Mozambik, which we both loved as a party venue when we first visited in May for lunch. The restaurant reached the stars and beyond in providing everything a great party needs – divine food, good service and treats such as loads of helium balloons. The kids played on the jungle gyms, trampoline and swings and had their faces painted, while the adults ate, drank and chatted.
But more important than balloons and ribbons, you had a wonderful time, surrounded by most of your favourite people in Joburg: friends, family, and friends who are like family.
It’s my best seeing you like this, and the only way to describe you is “in your element”. You’re surrounded by your best, you’re having the most wonderful time, and you’re celebrating a milestone and event that you’ve been counting down to for so long. It’s more than presents and attention – rather, it’s happiness. Sheer happiness.
And despite getting a bit panicked about whether people will come, and whether they’ll be sufficiently fed, entertained and made comfortable, I had a sensational day.
At the end, we gave away many helium balloons, and you released a big bunch into the sky, for your beautiful late dog, Rex. What a beautiful end to such a special celebration.
Happy birthday again, and may we have many more celebrations together,
