Dear Max
It’s the beginning of September and I thought I’d be skipping around in a spring dress, conscious about my need for a tan, and a more rapid weight loss.
Instead, until yesterday I was mostly in woolies, with a slight cold and cough. You seem to have developed the same kind of hack.
I stopped taking my Superguard vitamins last week because I got lazy (and we know how much effort it requires to open a sachet and swallow some pills, right?), and I’m convinced my body felt the need to remind me to take care of it.
What September definitely does bring is your birthday, and four other close birthdays – your dad’s, your grandpa’s, your granny’s and your uncle’s.
You have been talking about your birthday for the last six months, and finally we can break it down into a relatable number of sleeps, even though you’re a bit irritated that so many people have to have their birthday before yours.
You have opted for a small “party” with besties and our makeshift family, and the only thing that will smack of PARTY is an aeroplane cake that I’ve ordered for you. For the last six months, we have discussed your cake at length, and you’ve settled on a plane, matching your recent obsession with aviation (you have around 40 flying and plane apps on your iPad too). A few months ago you insisted on a “firefighter aeroplane cake” and Google search after Google search yielded no references or decent results, so I’m relieved you’ve opted for something we know actually exists.
We’re off to Cape Town next week for 10 days and I’m excited to:
– see family
– eat at Newport Deli
– run
– catch up with some mom friends
– do the inaugural Cape Town Marathon, even if it’s on so little training I shouldn’t even be doing it
– read
– write
– try to work on the tan and weight loss
I’m getting a bit nostalgic as it’s your birthday month, picturing where I was five, four, three, two and one year ago. It’s an extremely happy time, but one that pierces my heart a bit. I’ll write more about it over the next few weeks.
Sorry for giving you my cough (I think),
xMom
