How to see the good in life through a child’s eyes

October 2, 2012

Dear Max

Driving or hanging out with you is awesome. There are always quotes like:

“Wow, eeet’s a deeega”

“Mom, look at the twuck”

“Oh wow! Look at da moon!”

And it’s not because you’re unoriginal, or highly repetitive, but because you’re seeing wonderful things as if for the first time. Every truck brings happiness, every full moon a delighted squeal. Your way of seeing things is untainted – you see and experience so purely, and I wonder at what point adults lose this clarity.

At what point do we stop seeing the great things, and “oohing” over the equivalent of your trucks and diggers.

I like your way, dude. And I hope you retain it for as long as possible. We adults tend to focus on the crap too much, and we don’t see the wood for the trees mostly.

Thank you for constantly reminding me of what really meets the eye,

It’s cool that you have such a ball with your son driving. My kids also got this excited when we drove around 🙂 I miss it.
