On Saturday we headed to Durban together for the launch of Huggies Momville, a new website aimed at helping moms. I was invited to speak there, and having been away from you for a week and with serious longings, decided to take you along for the adventure. I figured short plane rides, treats and time together were worth the shlepp and time out of routine’ish (I use this word loosely).
Boy did you keep me on my toes – running around the terminal, climbing bars to see the aeroplanes, and making me go down on all fours to pick up the tiny Lego pieces that fell off your tray table. You were a wonderful companion – chatting, discussing the aeroplane and asking lots of questions before falling asleep a couple of minutes before landing.
Off we went to the venue in Salt Rock and to a lovely baby shower for the new website. We ate, I socialised, I did my talk, I broke my diet even more on meringues, and when you found the cupcake-decorating table, that was it. There you sat for about half an hour, decorating one cupcake after the other, which I may or may not have eaten on the way back from the airport (dietitian Jade, if you are reading this, please don’t give me kak about this at our weigh-in on
No trip would be complete without one mishap, and this one was in the form of a vomit in the airport before boarding (see, things could always be worse). You were unflustered, while I cleaned, caught, mopped up and changed your clothes. I reckon it takes a mom not to flinch when a child vomits, and I was grateful to supermom Litha from PR co Sabio who also zipped into action to help us, unfazed. We hopped on the plane, and you fell asleep with your face literally pressed against the window as soon as we took off.
Thanks for being an awesome travel buddy/son. It was wonderful hanging out together, especially since I’ve been missing you something terrible. Looking forward to more vogage miles together.
