Dear Max
On Saturday we went to your first play, The Gingerbread Man 2, at The People’s Theatre. We went with your besties Luca, Emma, Charlie, Jessica and Ben, and my besties Nicki, Melinda and Danielle.
I wanted to dress you for the occasion, but you were in your truck pyjamas and slippers (again) and it was one fight I didn’t feel like embarking on. With snacks in our Jean Kelly bag, off to the theatre we went – you excited, me a little nervous. I said beforehand this could have gone three ways:
1) that you would have loved the show
2) that you’d hate it/get scared/be overwhelmed, and want to leave
3) that you’d have bouts of hysteria and happiness – wanting to leave, or wanting to go back
And guess what? The result was option 1. You loved it, and were enchanted from the beginning of the show. You were talkative and every minute yakked to me about something, even unrelated to the show (like rubbish trucks and diggers). You high-fived, you exclaimed “yay” a lot and said “gingbedman” each time you saw him. After interval, when everyone started going back into the theatre, you instructed said “Go back”, and back we went, for some more fun.
It was a joy to watch you, and if someone had to ask me the synopsis of the play, I wouldn’t have a clue. You were my show Max, and I kept on watching you, highly entertained by you being entertained.
Will definitely be doing more fun stuff like this in future!
