It’s never easy, but there is so much light

March 26, 2012

Dear Max

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about setting challenges and how hard it is to make them, execute, and reach them. More about it here.

On the weekend, my bestie – and Hello Kitty fan – Joanne messaged to say that she’d been challenged to run a 10km by the end of the year, and within five minutes we had set a date (Nov 4, Nedbank Soweto 10km) and were recruiting people on Twitter, and we now even have a hashtag, #RunSoweto10km.

I’m a fan of running, and the confidence it builds, and the way it reshapes your body and outlook. And I love that people are facing their fears and doing something that’s difficult. It ain’t easy reaching high and venturing into the unknown. But I promise there is so much good when you reach there, provided it’s something you want to do (and not forced there with bribes/threats/false promises/unlimited episodes of Shaun the Sheep).

I lift my running cap to all those who see a finish line, and who work to get there. Respect.

PS: If you’d like to join me and around 20 (so far) other runners tackle our mostly first 10km race, please let me know and I’ll add your name to our register at

I’m keen… it’s on my list of stuff to do this year… and I’m more likely to get on the road if I have a goal

*Shudder!* Here goes! I have never run 10k’s, and now I barely make 2 on the treadmill!
    Put me on the list!
I have started on the healthy road again, and this will help! (Now if I can get my hubby to join…)

Well done Karen! You’re on! I seriously think dreadmill running is harder than on the road. You’ll be great! Your name is down (no pressure).

I would love to run this race. Having a baby end of September so hopefully I will be ready by 4 November. This will be great motivation to get back into shape.
