I blogged excitedly (more than once) about finding a Hello Kitty toaster and buying it in Cape Town. I didn’t blog about shlepping it back to Joburg – I couldn’t manage another piece of hand luggage, so I got it plastic wrapped (R50 for a small’ish box) and checked it in.
My excitement to use it was marred by the fact that despite what the picture says, I didn’t get a Hello Kitty imprint in my toast. Not the first piece. Nor the second. Nor the fifth. I tried six different types of bread and I still haven’t got a beautiful feline imprint. Today I came “close”. You can kinda make out two eyes and a nose…
It’s okay – I still love the toaster, and the point I want to make is that sometimes promises and expectations aren’t fulfilled. And that’s gonna have to be okay most of the time. The fact that the toast isn’t “perfect”, but that you grin at me and get excited for “kitteeee towwwst”, puts things into perspective and rids me of disappointment.
Another big lesson from a small dude.
