Why end-of-year holiday freaks me out a little (who am I kidding, a lot!)

December 16, 2011

Dear Max

So while I don’t hate holidays at all, I get a little bit anxious about them. It might have something to do with the fact that I left a get-swimsuit-ready programme too late, but it’s mostly about change and adjustment.

See, lately I’ve gotten into a groove, after a while of being a bit unsettled. I have a vague routine, our house is clean, we’re fed, and I know my couch and how the TV works. And yes, I’m so looking forward to watching the sea and mountain, catching up on reading, and drinking G&Ts, but I’m a leetle nervous about the change.

I know, I know. Once I’m running on the promenade and sipping chai from Newport Deli, I’ll wonder why I even worried about packing up and the change. But for now, friends are leaving for their holidays, Gogo and Sisi too, your wonderful school days are over for the year, restaurants are closing, and I’m feeling a little niggly.

But we’re going to have a great time – I have already starting telling you about the ice cream from Sinnful, and the fish in the aquarium, and the runs on the promenade in your jogger. And it’ll be okay. Your mom is just having a wee moment here…

Love you dude

I also sometimes freak out. But the best way to deal with it is to try your best to get as excited as possible. Works for me 🙂

Don’t feel alone T. I get this knot of anxiety in the pit of my stomach every year from around the 1st December, of course, once we arrive at our holiday destination, I’m absolutley fine and have a great time but there is something about the build up to the holiday, and I can’t quite pin point what, that has me in a knot of anxiety every year!
