What a great weekend, dude!

Dear Max

As I’m writing this you’re out at a braai with your dad, and I’m guessing you’re making people smile, chasing after dogs, eating ice cream and giving high fives and “sharps” with your fist.

Yesterday was so awesome and exhausting for you that you hit the sack before 8pm – yes, that is pretty early for you. Our morning started like all good Saturday mornings do – at Serendipity. You are so excited to get inside that you leap out the car and dash to the gate, and look behind me in irritation, as if to say “Could you please hurry up and stop lollygagging with the bags, sunglasses, keys and sunscreen”. You had a great time, painting, sliding, trampolining, eating, climbing and sandpitting, while I met another Serendipity regular, Melinda, whose daughter Emma is your new bestie there. She has an amazing story of adoption that both touched and lifted me, and I’m hoping to feature her piece in Living and Loving magazine.

Then it was off to Somewhere Far Out Yet Amazing for Hayley and Emma’s second birthday party. Your highlights were the cupcakes, Flings (shocker, I know. These are basically their own food group in your life), juice bottles, following Luca and riding the horse. Much more needs to be said about the horse, but suffice to say I think you’re going to be that child who wants his own pony/horse.

After your first horse walk (a bit nervously at first), you beamed and laughed, and when it was time to get off, you howled, absolutely gutted. And not even the Flings and sandpit would console you. It was one of those moments where all eyes were on me, and either people were thinking I was cruel to not get you your own horse, that I didn’t have a grip on you, or that I was a terrible mom. So I took you back to the horse, where you may or may not have “waited” very impatiently for your turn to ride. And boy did you love it. And I’m not sure whether it was better to have loved and lost than not loved at all, for you sobbed again when it was time to get off. And then it was time to go home for a big bubble bath, scrubbing off of paint, and hugs.

Thanks for a great weekend little dude. Love you loads…

I think you might have picked up the habit of cupcake guzzling from your mom

Love this pic! One twin for you, and one for Luca

That sounds like a great day for him – and who can argue – a horse is a man’s best friend.
