Dear Max
One of my favourite things is going to Serendipity, which I’ve been known to call “heaven”, “paradise” and “lifesaver” before. It’s a place where they take you with wide open arms to a world of swings, trampolines, dress up, ball pits and jungle gyms, and it’s a place where I can drink as many chai lattes as I’d like and feel adult and supported, chatting to my mommy friends about how tricky/challenging/amazing/confusing/rewarding our mothering journey is (I must add that we sometimes talk about poop and vomit without blinking an eyelid). You adore it there – it has cool stuff we don’t have at home, and there has not been a time that we’ve driven home from Serendipity when you haven’t passed out from the exhaustion of so much fun. They even have a shop with toys, Lou Harvey bags (which I’ve managed to resist), and Hello Kitty stationery (which, predictably, I’ve succumbed to).
On Saturday, we met with our NBFs, Nicki and Luca. I met Nicki through the computer, and we both share a taste for Patron and Chardonnay hot drinks and movies, among other things. You and Luca get on really well – you’re both chilled and content, and have similar beautiful blonde hair that should make you a gorgeous bestie duo. You also share your chips nicely, and look cool dressed up as animals together.
Yet my Serendipity experience is not all about mothering, and that’s what’s so awesome about it. We chat about Everything Else, and that’s what’s cool – there is more to me and my friends than nappies and talk of nursery school. Yes, it’s part of it, but not the whole part. I know it might not apply to all moms, but for me, if I don’t shower/shop/get dressed/have stimulating conversation/think, then I’m going to be a kak mom. And yes, I have off days when I might not slap on the lipgloss, or there are hours when I’ll watch Keeping up with the Kardashians in a coma, but on the whole, I think I’m a better mom to you when I take care of me too.
And if Serendipity had free WIFI, I might never leave…
Love Mom
