Parting is such a sweet sorrow

Dear Max

You know how you evolved from newborn to baby, then baby to toddler? Well, I’ve just made a transition of my own – from mag hag working full time for a company to freelance where I hope my boss (me) is awesome, and where I’ll be copywriting, editing and consulting on social media.

I’ve left an amazing magazine, Living and Loving, a team that has made me laugh and propped me up more times than I’ve changed nappies, growth as well as access to the most wonderful readers I’ve ever written and worked for.

But Max, your mom has ideas and an itch, and I want to fetch you from school, see you bound towards me, and I want to see you playing soccer/cricket/chess or doing ballet/public speaking/drama, so I make this choice for us.

I leave with a heavy heart, fear and excitement. I feel like I’m taking my first steps on new terrain, and it’s terrifying and thrilling, but if I fall, I’ll do what you did when you were learning to walk – pick myself up and try again. And like you, I’ll clap hands when I succeed.

This year has been full of change but I figure that without it, we don’t grow and flourish, nor do we find our feet.

Looking forward to more afternoon park visits with you, and growing and standing tall with you.

Tanya you write so well, you are so fab to work with and you are an amazing mommy to put Max ahead of personal ambition in the corporate world, you’re going to be great on your own, you won’t look back… The transition can be wobbly but in no time you’ll be up and running not just walking .
